We invite you to visit this page regularly to see what exciting activity is available for you to respond to your “hands-on” calling to environmental stewardship. Every month, we will feature a different event that will help you connect in answering our common call to environmental stewardship by serving together in the Austin-area.
HAPPENING THIS WINTER:
FEBRUARY
Ash Wednesday, the beginning of the Christian Lent season, falls on February 22nd this year. Lent, a season of preparation and spiritual discipline leading up to Easter, is a time of repentance and fasting for many Christians. Starting on the 22nd, consider committing to a spiritual discipline that more fully aligns you with God’s call for us to serve as stewards to creation. Some ideas for your monthly mission moment - and beyond:
- Electrically – use CFLs; unplug electronics when not in use
- Financially – purchase fair trade products; reuse instead of replacing items
- Nutritionally – reduce your consumption of meat; eat locally-grown produce
- Relationally – join a community garden, contact your member of congress about an environmental issue
We’d love to hear what ideas you come up with in these and new categories – what is your practice of discipline to become more energy efficient, decrease water usage, reduce waste… How are you celebrating God’s good earth by loving it?

The City of Austin storm drain marking program is a hands-on project for volunteers who are interested in educating the public about pollution prevention. The markers are placed on storm drain inlet filters to remind us that rainfall runoff can wash soil, yard waste, fertilizer, motor oil, and other pollutants into our waterways. Call 974-2550 for more information on volunteering.
