Patriotism and Religious Liberty

Part of the theme at First Baptist Church’s worship service yesterday (Sunday 7/3/11) was celebrating our nation’s foundation of religious freedom. The first amendment of our U.S. Constitution’s Bill of Rights,

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

This July 4th, let’s take a moment to appreciate this cornerstone of our civility -- and our inherent respect for each other’s differences.
